North Country Ski & Board Club
FAQ
1. How & when did the North Country Ski & Board Club begin?
Joe Perry of Brainardsville initiated the Ski Club in 1965. Joe was an English teacher at the Mooers Elementary School and a Ski Instructor at Moon Valley. Soon after in 1967, Don Lapierre Sr. became involved with the Ski Club along with John Huchro and after a couple of seasons, merged John Rowe from Northeastern Clinton Central High School. Then, in 1988 the North Country Youth Ski & Snowboard Club was turned over to Don Lapierre Jr. who managed the club until 2002. From 2002 until 2006 the North Country Youth Ski & Snowboard Club has been under the direction of Pam and Joe Damour. During Pam and Joe’s leadership the North Country Youth Ski and Snowboard have initiated a successful Ski Fair, which brings together area ski resorts, ski shops and skiing / snowboarding enthusiasts. The North Country Youth Ski & Snowboard Club has seen a significant increase in membership over the forty-two years the club has been in existence. In 2008, the leadership has transferred to Charles Roush, who will continue the success of the North Country Youth Ski & Snowboard Club well into the future.
2. Who Can Join?
Students grade 4 & up to of Mooers, Champlain, & Rouses Point can join, however, if you are not a resident of Mooers, Champlain or Rouses Point, you are welcome to join ski club, but as this a Youth Commission program for these towns, you will be asked to pay an additional $4.00 for the bus expenses. An email address is requested so we can make you aware of changes to the schedule or other planned activities.
3. Bus Fees.
The bus driver fee will cost $7 for members in the sponsoring towns/village i.e. the Town of Mooers-Champlain, & Rouses Point Village and a higher rate for members who live outside the sponsoring municipalities. Students of other outside towns but in the NCCS district are welcomed to join in the program but will need to share in cost of both the driver & bus. Each week these non-resident members will have to pay their town’s contribution through bus ride fees of $11 instead of $7 or encourage their town youth program to furnish or contribute to the cost of any bus.
4. Injury Concerns
Please note this is not a school function and school sports accident insurance does not provide insurance coverage. In the event of your child experiencing an injury, you remain financially responsible for all medical care, 100% of the cost! We allow any students grade 4 & up to participate, but for your child’s safety and enjoyment, it is the club’s policy to require each member in elementary school to have a ski-buddy each time they sign up to participate. It is important that you be available to pick up you child in the event of injuries or in the event that they don’t have a ski buddy,
